Examples of beautiful pet photography

// March 16th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Photography

Ok so the photos here are all mine and hence this all seems a bit vain (especially with the title) but I really like these photos and I’m hoping the title gets me some extra views - so, apologies for ‘bigging’ myself up but someone’s gotta do it.

At least I didn’t say I’m available for hire… DAMMIT!

METEORS!!! …well, kind of

// March 11th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Photography

Took this photo when we went meteor spotting a few months back. No meteors photographed I’m afraid but instead you get this, which looks like a 6th form production of WALL.E - lucky you.

My New Favourite Photo…

// September 24th, 2009 // No Comments » // Photography

Last year I did a project on photographing pets and I recently came back to the idea as someone was keen to have some dog portraits done. This image is from that set and I’m extremely chuffed with it -  I don’t normally big myself up or boast about my work but I LOVE this photo! It may even like it more than my current favourite dog photo from the set last year.

What’s more this image has not been Photoshopped, just a tiny amount of sharpening and that’s it.

I think it is really important to be strict when shooting digital. It’s really easy to be lazy and sloppy, then deal with it later on the computer. I like to shoot it right in the camera, it keeps my skills sharp and I get a real sense of satisfaction. Anyone can make a bad photo look good these days but taking a good photo in the first place is a whole different ball game.Dog Portait

I am not a wedding photographer…

// September 9th, 2009 // 9 Comments » // Photography

Well, the title says it all, I’m just simply not a wedding photographer for many reasons but one of the main ones being I don’t like working a year and a half in advance - I don’t know what I’m going to be doing or where I’m going to be in a year so I don’t want to commit to anything.

That said I have photographed a few weddings, one for a friend and more recently for my sister …I had no choice!

If you want to hire me I’m not completely against the idea so if you need a last minute photographer give me a shout and we might be able to sort something out - just no super advance bookings please!

Anyway, enjoy…

Shoot from the hip: Incognito photos from the Durham Miners Gala 2009

// July 30th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Photography

I was at the Miner’s Gala the other week and took along my camera. As always it was heaving and there were some pretty interesting people around.

Here are a few photos I took without raising the camera to my eye or composing the shot. The trick is to not look directly at the subject and appear to be interested in something else - just be sneaky and try and spot things out the corner of your eye, peripheral vison all the way!

// July 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // Photography

This was the best part of the day when I followed Imperial Kikiristan at the Brass festival in Durham - I’ll let the pictures do the talking…

Brass: Durham International Festival - A few Photos

// July 8th, 2009 // No Comments » // Photography

The Durham International Brass Festival kicked off on Saturday and I was volunteering so I took along my camera.

There’s a whole bunch and the festival is on for another week and a half so I’ll add more later but just thought I would stick a few up now.

This guy is from the Band that I chaperoned around the festival. They are called Imperial Kikiristan and they are AWSEOME!

This photo was taken just after they were chased by a security guard for playing on top of a bin - when backup arrived they ran form the scene mimicking a police siren on their sax and set up on top of this bin down the street instead (just out of shot)…

This next photo I really like. It looked good in colour, B&W and re-touched but I really liked the idea of making it feel a bit ‘Seventies’. It was a super hot day and reminded me of old photos of may parents during that crazy heatwave that happened back then. Also with it being a brass festival it sounds a bit ‘old fashioned’ even though for the past three years it hasn’t been at all, but you know with the whole colliery bands and miners gala and all of that - it kind of felt right.
