Limited edition print for ZOMBIEPALOOZA

This Halloween I created a limited edition Gocco print for a new zombie based horror event in Durham. Zombiepalooza is focused around event based cinema and saw a hoard of zombies infest the local shopping centre, then sit down with pop corn and watch the original Dawn of the Dead – yes really.

Anyway, part of their concept is to commission an artist/illustrator to create a new collectable print for every event they do, and since I am involved with the Zombiepalooza I was able to put myself forward to create the first one.

I’m pretty chuffed with the result, it was my first time using Gocco and it’s such a beautiful medium. I love its rough around the edges DIY style. Following a masterclass by the ultra awesome Cloud Commission I came up with the final product.

Design wise I couldn’t go into insane amounts of details and colours as I could of with a large screen print so I had to keep it relatively simple for the size and format. I didn’t want to do a straight homage to the movie with characters or classic scenes so instead I just went with a stylised zombie. I did throw in a nice little reference for fans however, the pattern background is a little retro TV showing Richard France’s eye patch wearing scientist.

Anyway, if you like Dawn of the Dead or are in to collecting prints you can grab one here for only £5 + p&p. After the success of the first Zombiepalooza they will be doing more events so grab the first ever print whilst you have the chance.
